ABOUT WATERSHED

Watershed https://watershed.com/ is the enterprise sustainability platform. Companies like Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr. Martens use Watershed to manage climate and ESG data, produce audit-ready metrics for voluntary and regulatory reporting including CSRD, and drive real decarbonization. We are looking for team members who love product-building, want to work hard at a mission-oriented startup, and will collaborate with us in shaping the culture of a growing team.

We have offices in San Francisco, New York, Denver, London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, Mexico City, and remote team members across the US and Europe. We hope that you'll be interested in joining us!

THE ROLE

We are looking for analytically minded and detail-oriented individuals to join the Customer Data Services team in our New York or San Francisco office on a fixed-term basis starting at the beginning of January 2027. This role is open to early-career candidates with up to 2 years of experience who love working with complex data and want to see how it drives real decisions at the world's largest companies.

Watershed is a growth-stage start-up that works with 800+ customers globally, including 100+ of the Fortune 500 and 5 of the top 6 US banks, to accelerate their sustainability programs. You'll work hands-on with customer business data, transforming it to fit Watershed templates and enabling our customers to gain clear, reliable insights into their sustainability impact.

YOU WILL

  • Clean and transform customer business data into Watershed templates to reduce customer friction and drive time-to-value.
  • Partner with customers to understand their raw data and recommend best practices for preparing it.
  • Communicate data issues clearly to customers, covering impact, options and trade-offs.
  • Leverage judgment to assess, advise, and execute on data cleaning best practices.
  • Rigorously document decisions to ensure traceability of data manipulations during third-party verifications.
  • Synthesize customer experiences and feedback to drive continuous improvement of our work and inform product development.

YOU MIGHT BE A FIT IF YOU

  • Have up to 2 years of experience working with large data files in Excel, whether through internships, co-ops or academic projects. Python or SQL is a plus.
  • Thrive on complex, messy data and enjoy the work of making it clean, structured, and trustworthy.
  • Are detail obsessed. You double check your work and do not consider something done until you know it is right.
  • Have good intuition for how numbers in a spreadsheet map to the real world. You translate abstract problems into concrete data frameworks.
  • Have high customer empathy and want to help them achieve their outcomes.
  • Are a strong written and verbal communicator. You can concisely communicate externally to non-technical audiences.
  • Are a low ego team player with a strong sense of ownership. You are driven by team goals and bias for action in order to achieve them.

FIXED-TERM DETAILS

  • Minimum commitment of 4 months, with a possible extension of up to 3 additional months.
  • Fixed-term employees receive compensation and benefits similar to full-time Watershed employees, including daily lunch delivered in the Watershed office.
  • This position requires being in person in our San Francisco or New York office 4 days per week.

Must be willing to work from an office 4 days per week (except for remote roles)

Watershed has hub offices in San Francisco, New York, London, and Mexico City and satellite offices in Denver, Sydney, Paris, and Berlin. Where we have offices, employees are expected to be in office for 4 days per week. Certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description if so.

What’s the interview process like?

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience interview (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.

What if I need accommodations for my interview?

At Watershed, we are dedicated to ensuring an inclusive recruitment process. We provide reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities, long-term conditions, mental health needs, religious observances, neurodivergence, or pregnancy-related support requirements. If you need assistance during your process, please contact your recruiter.
