Job Overview
The Linear Generator is a sophisticated, automated, and integrated system spanning a wide range of engineering disciplines including thermodynamics, mechanical, electrical, software, and controls. As a member of our Fleet Operations & Analytics Team, you will be part of a dynamic group that delivers the best product and experience that Mainspring Energy has to offer. This includes operation and monitoring of our fleet of Linear Generators (LGens), debugging issues, management of incident resolution and advanced data analysis aimed at improving our product and communicating on our fleet performance.

This is a highly cross-functional role in a rapidly-scaling company function, and there is an enormous opportunity to influence how this work is done now and into the future.  The breadth of this role is perfect for an engineer who wants to use their advanced analytical and technical skills in a fast-paced and challenging environment. We are looking for an ambitious and curious individual excited to work at the interface of operations, systems engineering, and analytics.

Does your experience not meet all of our posted requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to positions unless they meet every listed requirement. At Mainspring, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, flexible, and collaborative environment, so if you want to help us transition the world to clean and affordable electricity, and don’t meet all posted requirements for a particular role, we’d still love to hear from you. Mainspring can sometimes be flexible enough to shift responsibilities for the right person, or otherwise identify open or upcoming roles that may better fit your professional background.
In more traditional words, Mainspring Energy, Inc is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or protected veteran status and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.
This compensation and benefits information is based on Mainspring Energy's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. We generally do not negotiate on salary once we have made an offer. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

  • Manage daily operations of Mainspring Energy’s growing Linear Generator fleet, including remote operation, troubleshooting, and incident resolution
  • Contribute to a cross-functional team that designs, implements, and uses a real-time monitoring and communication platform
  • Provide high-quality analytics on fleet availability, performance, and connectivity to Service, Engineering, and Sales teams
  • Report on NERC compliance metrics and ensure ongoing adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Identify and communicate major opportunities for performance and reliability improvements

  • Generate accurate, detailed data reports for customers and regulatory agencies
  • Improve automation and reporting workflows by developing and deploying internal tools
  • Coordinate with the Operations & Maintenance team to plan and execute scheduled and reactive service events
  • Collaborate across functions, gaining exposure to quality assurance, reliability engineering, product validation, test engineering, and software development
  • Support team growth by helping to identify, onboard, and train new team members in a rapidly scaling organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain highly disciplined operations and training processes, including methodical workflow documentation, clear hand-off communication, and detailed incident reporting/analysis
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities at once
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and experience applying these concepts to large-scale physical systems
  • Previous experience with system-level engineering analysis and troubleshooting, understanding how mechanical, electrical, controls, and software components interact across a broader system
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex troubleshooting problems and independently make right decisions under high pressure situations, employing clear and methodical communication and documentation
  • Experience with engineering data analysis, including time-series data and dashboard development using cloud-based or industry-standard tools
  • Demonstrated interest and ability in development of automated software tools and processes (Python preferred)
  • Role requires full-time presence at our Menlo Park headquarters
