For our location in Hamburg , we are now looking for a Senior   Intraday Trader with focus on proprietary short-term trading in power and gas .

Your job as a Senior Intraday Trader:

You will work together with highly skilled individuals in a multi-national and dynamic environment, some of which running our 24/7 shift to cover market access, position management and monitoring of algorithmic trading activities.

You, in close collaboration with your fellow traders, our analysts and algo developers, will play a key role in creating and improving automated strategies as well as taking ad-hoc trading decisions. This position is outside the 24/7 rotation. However, while strategy development generally happens during normal office hours, flexibility to work early or late hours as well as weekends is going to be part of your job as well.

We cover Continental Europe and Great Britain, predominantly on the day ahead and intraday markets, but to some extent also beyond that.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop new and improve existing trading strategies
  • Take positions in intraday and short term power and gas markets
  • Drive our growth ambitions by increasing our existing trading activities, but also exploring new market segments
  • Keep track of the relevant markets and market developments in order to identify trading opportunities
  • Share your knowledge, experience and risk-taking ability with your colleagues: we lift each other to win as one team
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing market regulations as well as internal requirements in all your trading activities
  • Stay sharp and keep learning every day.
  • Continuously question the status quo. Improve our quality, speed and efficiency

Your profile:

  • Strong academic background with a university degree in mathematics, physics, financial engineering or other relevant quantitative subject
  • Ideally more than 3 years of trading experience in a comparable role and with a strong track record
  • Ability to leverage market knowledge into profitable trading strategies and the confidence to take trading decisions under pressure
  • Programming skills (esp. Python), knowledge about data management and preferably also algorithmic trading
  • Excellent communication skills and good knowledge of English spoken and written, while German and other language skills are not a requirement
  • Reliable team player who is proactively supporting the team approach
  • Resilience and determination to win it every day
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a trading organization, that offers excellent career development opportunities

Within Markets the  Business Unit (BU) Trading is the energy trading hub of the Vattenfall Group. BU Trading is responsible for all trading activities around Vattenfall´s asset and customer flows to maximize value creation and improve sourcing costs. It provides market access services for the Vattenfall Group which means managing all hedging flows, from generation assets or customers, by Market Access.
