COMPANY BACKGROUND:

Specter is creating a software-defined “control plane” for the physical world. We are starting with protecting American businesses by granting them ubiquitous perception over their physical assets.

To do so, we are creating a connected hardware-software ecosystem on top of multi-modal wireless mesh sensing technology. This allows us to drive down the cost and time of deploying sensors by 10x. Our platform will ultimately become the perception engine for a company’s physical footprint, enabling real-time perimeter visibility and autonomous operations management.

Our co-founders Xerxes https://www.linkedin.com/in/xerxes-libsch/ and Philip https://www.linkedin.com/in/philip-clark-883a41126/ are passionate about empowering our partners in the fast approaching world of physical AI and robotics. We are a small, fast growing team who hail from Anduril, Tesla, Uber, and the U.S. Special Forces.

ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specter is hiring a Test Engineer to design, execute, and scale hardware and system test infrastructure across our sensor and compute platforms, ensuring reliability from prototype through production and deployment.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Own system-level and board-level validation strategy from prototype through production
  • Design and execute mechanical, thermal, environmental, and reliability testing
  • Develop automated test infrastructure, fixtures, and instrumentation for validation and production
  • Perform hardware bring-up, characterization, and stress testing to identify system limits
  • Drive failure analysis and root cause investigation across hardware and system-level issues
  • Define validation plans and acceptance criteria with electrical, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams
  • Support EVT / DVT / PVT builds and validation bring-up during NPI
  • Analyze test results and investigate field failures to improve system reliability

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of hardware validation, reliability, or systems test engineering experience for embedded hardware products
  • Strong experience developing and executing board-level and system-level validation plans
  • Expert in hardware bring-up and debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and power analyzers
  • Experience performing mechanical, thermal, and environmental testing and interpreting results
  • Experience conducting structured root cause analysis across hardware, firmware, and system failures
  • Experience working cross-functionally with EE, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience with reliability and stress testing (thermal cycling, vibration, ingress, long-duration burn-in)
  • Experience developing automated validation systems or manufacturing test infrastructure
  • Experience building test fixtures, harnesses, or end-of-line production test systems
