Please note, this posting is to highlight joining Right Side Up's talent collective specifically and is not representing an internal full-time role, or a current opportunity with a client.
Right Side Up is a collective of premium marketing talent—with all of the marketing chops, and none of the agency fluff. We're trusted by the most respected early-stage ventures, the fastest-growing tech companies, and well-established Fortune 500 teams to do one thing better: Growth. We have over 1400+ clients including Reddit, Robinhood, Lyft, Gusto, Stripe, Rippling, Shopify, Noom, Hinge Health, Kikoff, and more.
We're looking for freelance Ad Operations consultants who live in the plumbing between ad platforms and first-party data. You've set up server-side conversion tracking more than once, and you know how to take a conversion from the click, through the site and backend, and back to the ad platform so the algorithms can actually learn from it.This is a hands-on seat.
You'll work alongside in-house tracking and engineering teams, bringing a fresh, current perspective on how the platforms have evolved. Sometimes that means mapping the architecture and handing it off for execution. Other times it means getting into the tools and building it yourself. You'll also pressure-test existing setups that have been touched by many hands over the years and make sure they hold up to current best practices.
Our clients range from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 teams, often with multiple brands, consumer and B2B lines, and international properties. Contract engagements typically run 10 to 20 hours per week, with flexibility to scale up or down.
•
Implement and maintain server-side conversion tracking across Meta (Conversions API), Google (Enhanced Conversions, including for leads), TikTok, Pinterest, Bing, and other major ad platforms.
•
Set up and troubleshoot offline conversion feeds, matching backend conversion and CRM data to ad platform identifiers and sending it back to the platforms.
•
Build and manage event pipelines in Segment (sources, destinations, tracking plans, and event schemas), including sending backend and warehouse data downstream to ad platforms.
•
Manage Google Tag Manager containers, including web and server-side GTM, tag, trigger, and variable hygiene.
•
Audit existing tracking setups across brands and properties, find gaps, duplicate events, and under-reporting, and recommend fixes aligned to current platform best practices.
•
Work closely with engineers and data teams: write clear technical specs, QA implementations, and make sure event and identity data is passed correctly (with appropriate hashing and consent handling).
•
Partner with performance marketers to understand their conversion funnels, which events matter, and how signal quality affects bidding and optimization.
•
Document tracking architecture, event definitions, and naming standards (including UTM and campaign tagging) so the internal team can own it long-term.
•
4+ years of hands-on ad ops, tracking, or marketing technology experience supporting paid media.
•
Proven, hands-on experience implementing Meta CAPI and Google Enhanced Conversions (web and lead-gen), ideally multiple times across different stacks.
•
Strong working knowledge of Segment or a comparable CDP/event-streaming tool, and of server-side eventing.
•
Deep familiarity with Google Tag Manager, including server-side containers.
•
Comfortable working shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers and translating marketing needs into technical requirements.
•
Solid understanding of how performance marketers operate: conversion funnels, attribution, event prioritization, and how tracking quality affects campaign performance.
•
Strong grasp of privacy and consent considerations in tracking (hashed PII, consent signals, regional requirements).
•
Comfortable operating in ambiguity, whether that's a scrappy startup or a large, multi-brand organization with legacy setups.
•
Nice to have: SQL and warehouse experience (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift), Braze, Looker, LinkedIn Ads, or experience with AI-assisted workflows for tracking and QA.
•
Segment (or similar CDP/event pipeline)
•
Google Tag Manager (web and server-side), Google Analytics (GA4), Google Ads
•
Meta, TikTok, Pinterest, Bing, LinkedIn, and other ad platforms
•
A CRM or ESP such as Salesforce or Braze
•
SQL and a data warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar)
