Construction Layout & Survey Technician
Location: Virginia or Maryland

Compensation: Starting at $30.00/hour; higher pay available depending on experience and technical background
Position Summary
A growing construction and steel installation team is seeking a skilled field professional to support structural and miscellaneous steel projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This role focuses on field layout, measurement verification, alignment support, and construction surveying activities on active job sites.
The ideal candidate has prior experience working around structural steel erection projects and is comfortable operating survey equipment in fast-paced construction environments.

This is a primarily field-based position. Occasional attendance at office or shop locations may be required for meetings, coordination, or training activities.
- Collect accurate field measurements and survey data for construction activities.
- Establish building control lines, column locations, and anchor rod positions .
- Check elevations, embed alignment, and structural placement.
- Prepare or support as-built drawings .
- Assist steel erection teams with alignment, positioning, and installation.
- Verify plumbness and structural accuracy while coordinating with other trades.
- Support installation of structural and miscellaneous steel , including stairs, shafts, and related components.
- Operate surveying and layout equipment and use Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office .
- Follow established safety procedures and maintain a strong safety focus on active job sites.
- 3+ years of experience in structural steel erection, field surveying, or a related construction layout role.
- Experience surveying slopes, grades, and layout for structural or miscellaneous metals.
- Proficiency with a total station or similar surveying equipment .
- Understanding of AISC standards related to building alignment and orientation.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work with field crews and other trades.
- Willingness to travel regularly to job sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Comfortable working at heights, including aerial lifts and elevated steel floors .
- Company vehicle and gas card for job-related travel.
- Variety of structural steel field projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
- Ongoing training and field support.
This is primarily a field-based position with regular work at active construction sites. Occasional time may be spent at office or shop locations for training, meetings, and project coordination.
