Aerospace Technical Documentation Specialist

Pay:Starting at $40.00/hour (Higher pay available based on experience)
We are hiring an experienced Aerospace Technical Documentation Specialist to support engineering, testing, and documentation activities in a regulated aerospace environment. This role combines hands-on technical work with the creation and maintenance of detailed technical documentation for manufacturing, testing, and maintenance operations.
- Perform hands-on assembly, wiring, bench testing, functional verification, calibration, and inspection of aerospace/aviation components and subsystems.
- Set up test rigs and instrumentation, operate test equipment, collect and analyze data, and document test results.
- Develop, revise, and maintain:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Test procedures and reports
- Maintenance instructions and work cards
- Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
- Installation and troubleshooting guides
- Materials & Process (M&P) documentation
- Convert engineering specifications, test data, and technical requirements into clear documentation for technicians, engineers, and auditors.
- Ensure documentation aligns with applicable FAA, EASA, DO-178, DO-254, and AS9100 requirements.
- Work with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and product teams to gather technical information and implement document revisions.
- Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and technical reporting.
- Maintain calibration records, spare-parts inventory, lab documentation, and safety compliance.
- Prepare certification evidence, test artifacts, and controlled documentation for audits and certification activities.
- Bachelor’s degree, technical diploma, or equivalent technical certification in Aerospace Engineering Technology, Avionics, Mechanical Engineering Technology , or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of engineering technician experience in aerospace, aviation, or avionics.
- Experience creating technical procedures, test reports, maintenance documentation, or similar content in a regulated industry.
- Knowledge of FAA, EASA, AS9100, DO-178/DO-254, ATA iSpec 2200 , or equivalent aerospace standards.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, wiring/harnesses, soldering, bench testing , and common test equipment such as:
- Multimeters
- Oscilloscopes
- Spectrum analyzers
- Torque tools
- Calipers
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and document control systems such as SharePoint, Windchill, Teamcenter, or PDM/PLM .
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications .
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work within schedule and regulatory requirements.
- Experience supporting aerospace certification activities or audits.
- Familiarity with schematic capture, basic circuit troubleshooting, and avionics systems, including communications/navigation, flight controls, and sensors.
- Knowledge of configuration management and revision control.
- Experience with technical authoring tools such as MadCap Flare or FrameMaker .
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one, if required.
