As a Backend Software Engineer on the Product Engineering team, you will design, build, and deploy backend software at scale to transform how manufacturers use data. The team owns Oden's foundational data platform: the services, runtimes, and infrastructure that deliver reliable, performant data to the rest of the business. That includes building robust backend services, strengthening our core data infrastructure, and providing the monitoring and tooling needed to know those systems are working as expected. It also includes supporting Oden's AI models and LLM features with the right data backend and infrastructure to run them in production.
Oden is looking for a senior to staff level engineer with a strong AI-forward mindset, someone who is comfortable building with AI tools and building AI-native products, and who wants real time and space to tinker, experiment, and run research spikes rather than just execute against a fixed spec. You'll work closely with Product, Data Science, and fellow Engineers across the company (this is primarily an internal-facing, cross-functional role).
This role is based in Brazil or Argentina and is a full-time position. Candidates must be available to work 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time (ET).
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Design, build, and maintain robust backend services and runtimes that power Oden's data processing and delivery pipeline
- Build and evolve Oden's core data infrastructure to deliver reliable, performant service at scale
- Support Oden's AI models and LLM features with the right data backend and infrastructure to run them reliably in production
- Build monitoring, observability, and tooling so the team can trust that production systems are working correctly
- Work with Product, Data Science, and fellow Engineers to plan, design, and prioritize new features
- Take part in unstructured hackathons and research spikes to test new ideas and technologies, some of our best product ideas come out of this kind of exploration
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience (senior to staff level)
- Proficiency in one or more backend-focused programming languages, such as Go, Java, Python, C++, Rust, or similar
- Familiarity with data storage and processing systems in cloud environments
- Track record of building and operating reliable, production-grade services at scale
- An AI-forward mindset: you build with AI tools (general-purpose LLMs like Claude and ChatGPT, and beyond) for coding, design, collaboration, and documenting knowledge, and you've built or contributed to infrastructure that lets others, including AI agents, extend or adapt what you've built
- A tinkering mindset: you're energized by experimentation and open-ended research spikes, not just prescriptive spec work
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineers and non-technical internal stakeholders
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred, not required)
