Australia’s energy transition is reshaping the way organisations think about strategy, investment, regulation, operating models, technology and delivery. KordaMentha’s Energy Advisory team helps clients move from intent to execution, providing practical, commercially grounded advice across a fast-moving and complex market.
We are looking for an Associate Director to join our Energy Advisory team and take a leading role in shaping client opportunities, delivering complex engagements and contributing to the continued growth of the practice.
This is a senior opportunity for an advisory professional who brings energy sector depth, strong commercial judgement, trusted client relationships and the confidence to lead work that matters.
As an Associate Director, you will work alongside genuine energy experts on practical, outcome-focused engagements across Australia’s changing energy system. You will help clients make clear decisions in complex environments, balancing commercial outcomes, reliability, affordability, policy, regulation, technology and delivery considerations.
You will:
•
Lead and grow trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, becoming a credible point of contact beyond a single engagement.
•
Identify and shape new opportunities for clients and the practice, contributing to business development, proposals, marketing activities and industry events.
•
Frame complex commercial, regulatory, operational and technology problems, and direct the analysis needed to solve them.
•
Own the quality of written reports, presentations and client deliverables from end to end, ensuring findings and recommendations are clear, evidence-based and defensible.
•
Independently lead engagements, managing scope, time, commercials and risk.
•
Build depth in one or more energy domains and bring a point of view on energy transition, market reform and emerging practice.
•
Coach and develop more junior team members, both on and beyond your own engagements.
You are a commercially minded advisory professional with strong technical capability, sound judgement and the ability to lead complex engagements. You are confident working with senior stakeholders, shaping opportunities and delivering practical recommendations in complex environments.
You will bring:
•
7-10 years of relevant energy and utilities experience in the private sector or government, for example in consulting, advisory, professional services, government infrastructure teams or in-house energy teams, ideally with energy or wider infrastructure exposure.
•
Credible depth in one or more energy and utility sectors, such as generation, networks, retail, gas or water.
•
Strong judgement across complex commercial, regulatory, operational or technology problems.
•
Experience across diverse range of energy advisory engagements, spanning strategy, transformation, regulation, capital investment and project/program delivery challenges.
•
Business development acumen, including shaping and winning proposals, understanding commercial positioning and managing profitable engagements.
•
Exceptional analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills, with advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
•
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively, supported by advanced Microsoft PowerPoint skills.
•
Comfort using AI tools to improve quality and efficiency, with the judgement to apply them appropriately and validate outputs.
•
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Experience with electricity networks, consulting, in-house energy roles or regulators would be highly regarded, as would familiarity with economic regulatory frameworks, revenue determinations and revenue reset processes.
An emerging thought-leadership capability and a point of view on topics shaping the energy transition, including data centres, market reform, CER and renewables economics, would also be valued.
You may not tick every box, and that’s okay. If you meet most of the criteria and are energised by the opportunity to help clients navigate the future of Australia’s energy system, we would like to hear from you.
