The Indiana University School of Education is at the exciting inflection point of reimagining how education transforms lives while launching bold, interdisciplinary initiatives that address some of society's most pressing challenges. As Executive Director of Development, you will partner directly with the Dean to shape the future of one of the nation's leading schools of education, building philanthropic support for groundbreaking priorities including a new Center for Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship, emerging research and outreach opportunities in the autism and neurodiversity space, innovative health education partnerships, collaborative initiatives with schools and units across Indiana University—including IU Innovates—to accelerate innovation and expand impact, and enhanced pathways for aspiring educators.

This is a rare opportunity to help define what's next while contributing to Indiana University's historic Never Daunted: Indiana University’s Campaign for the Future, one of the largest and most ambitious fundraising campaigns in higher education.

We're looking for a strategic and entrepreneurial advancement leader who sees possibility where others see roadblocks. The successful candidate will be energized by building partnerships across schools, campuses, and disciplines, uncovering new philanthropic opportunities, and helping donors think bigger about the impact they can make. You'll inspire a high-performing team, cultivate transformational relationships with alumni, volunteers, faculty, and campus leaders, and create a culture where innovation, collaboration, and bold ideas flourish. If you're a visionary relationship builder who isn't afraid to challenge convention, explore new fundraising models, and champion initiatives that improve education for generations to come, we invite you to join us.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated success securing major and principal gifts and leading comprehensive fundraising strategies.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and creatively, identifying innovative philanthropic opportunities and building support for transformational initiatives.
  • Experience fostering collaboration across campuses, schools, academic units, and advancement disciplines to achieve shared goals.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with donors, volunteers, faculty, senior administrators, and community partners.
  • A visionary leadership style with the ability to build culture, develop talent, and inspire high-performing teams.
  • Experience leading fundraising efforts within a large, complex, matrixed organization.
  • Strong strategic planning, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive measurable results.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive leadership and building authentic partnerships.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Eight or more years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including success securing major and principal gifts.
  • Four or more years of progressive leadership and people management experience.
