About the Daily Mail

The Daily Mail is one of the world’s most recognized media brands, reaching millions of readers daily across digital, mobile, and print platforms. Known for its bold journalism and global reach, the Daily Mail continues to innovate in the digital landscape with a focus on storytelling, audience growth, and engagement. Our U.S. business represents a critical growth engine as we expand our digital presence and build new revenue models for the future.

Overview

We are seeking a strategic and data-driven Director of Lifecycle & Growth to own US customer journey and lifecycle beyond the point of acquisition. This includes onboarding, engagement, retention, and upsell. You will leverage customer insights and work with our data team to setup a CDP to create personalized experiences that drive subscription growth and long-term loyalty.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy, experimentation, and execution—focused on how readers discover, value, pay for, and stay engaged with our journalism over time. It is ideal for a strategic growth leader who understands how acquisition, engagement, retention, and monetization work together.

You will develop and activate new ideas for growing subscriptions that expand reach through non-traditional acquisition models. You will leverage data and technology to build partnerships, bundles, and audience programs that personalize experiences at scale, and increase value for our audiences—all within a trusted, well-established daily news organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute full customer journey and subscriber lifecycle strategy to maximize engagement, retention, and lifetime value.
  • Own the US CDP strategy, ensuring subscriber data is clean, actionable, and integrated across marketing, product, and analytics teams.
  • Leverage CDP data to segment audiences, deliver personalized messaging, and optimize campaigns across email, push, in-app, and other channels.
  • Develop and implement experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, multivariate tests) to validate lifecycle campaigns and growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with editorial, product, marketing, and analytics teams to create a cohesive and seamless subscriber experience.
  • Analyze subscriber behavior and data to identify churn risks, growth opportunities, and revenue optimization strategies.
  • Identify friction points and unmet needs in the reader journey and turn them into product or growth opportunities. Develop new concepts to bring them to life.
  • Build processes and frameworks that make growth experimentation repeatable and scalable (e.g. partnership sourced subscribers turned into loyalists)
  • Monitor key performance metrics (subscriber activation, conversion, retention, engagement, revenue per user) and report insights
  • Translate learnings into clear recommendations
  • Stay informed on media, subscription, and growth marketing trends to inform strategies and maintain competitive advantage.

How You’ll Work

  • Curious, hypothesis-driven, and comfortable identifying high potential test ideas
  • Equal parts strategic thinker and hands-on builder
  • Collaborative and influential, able to move work forward without direct ownership of every lever
  • Focused on momentum as much as performance metrics
  • Grounded in the realities of a daily news cycle, but oriented toward long-term transformation

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in subscriber growth and digital strategy.
  • Experience managing strategic partnerships tied to subscriber growth
  • Demonstrated success driving subscriber growth through non-traditional or innovative acquisition approaches (e.g., partnerships, bundles,               or audience programs)
  • Strong understanding of the full subscription funnel and lifecycle, with the ability to design growth initiatives that balance acquisition scale with subscriber quality
  • Hands-on experience working with a Customer Data Platform (CDP) and first-party data to build segments, activate audiences, and inform growth strategy
  • Proven ability to translate audience insights and experimentation into scalable growth programs
  • Familiarity with paywalls, offer strategy, and subscription analytics
  • Experience developing and evaluating growth hypotheses, pilots, and tests in an evolving environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Editorial, Product, Marketing, Data and Audience Insights
  • Strong analytical and creative skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate ideas, tradeoffs, and recommendations

Preferred

  • Experience at a digital news publisher, media company, or subscription-based business
  • Exposure to experimentation frameworks, audience research, or behavioral analytics
  • Passion for journalism and audience trust

The Daily Mail is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
