We are seeking a safety focused and technically capable Seamgas SCADA Operator to join our Seamgas team.

In this critical operational role, you will monitor and support the safe operation of the site’s seam gas drainage infrastructure. Your work will help maintain safe underground atmospheric conditions and enable productive mining activities.

You will be the central point for monitoring the Seamgas network, responding to SCADA alarms and trends, and escalating operational or equipment issues to the appropriate teams. You will also support the development of SCADA processes, reporting systems and improvement initiatives.

What you will be doing

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Monitoring gas extraction, processing, compression and distribution systems through the SCADA network
  • Operating Seamgas infrastructure within approved operating envelopes, alarm limits and TARP requirements
  • Responding to alarms, abnormal trends and potential operational threats
  • Escalating plant, equipment and process issues to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Monitoring gas chromatograph data and process safety requirements
  • Analysing production, equipment performance and availability data
  • Providing alarm and trend data for incident and equipment investigations
  • Identifying equipment issues that may affect reliability, maintainability or availability
  • Helping develop SCADA processes, operating standards, procedures and reports
  • Identifying shutdown work early so it can be planned into available plant downtime
  • Maintaining Process Safety registers and supporting isolation lock box management
  • Ensuring equipment changes are appropriately risk assessed and managed through the change management process

You will be someone who can remain focused while monitoring complex systems and who understands the importance of escalating issues quickly and accurately.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience operating or monitoring SCADA, process control or industrial control systems
  • Experience in mining, gas drainage, gas processing, utilities, fixed plant or a similar operational environment
  • Knowledge of SCADA alarms, trends, operating envelopes and process control
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • The ability to interpret operational data and identify emerging risks or equipment issues
  • Experience preparing reports and maintaining accurate operational records
  • An understanding of risk management, process safety and change management requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to complete detailed and accurate shift handovers
  • Confidence working with technical, operational and maintenance teams
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and equipment reliability

Experience with Citect SCADA, gas drainage infrastructure, gas compression systems, process safety or underground coal mining operations will be highly regarded.
