We are seeking a results-driven and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead our accounting team in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and driving operational excellence. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, and a passion for continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional accounting, analytical, and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and mentor a high-performing team.
Location: Kansas City, MO - Hybrid schedule (In office three days per week)
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, project accounting, and general ledger functions.
- Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals through performance reviews, goal setting, and career development planning.
- Provide training, mentorship, and leadership to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and approval of journal entries.
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements; collaborate with business unit leaders to address inquiries and provide insights.
- Review account reconciliations and support staff in resolving discrepancies.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and data accuracy.
- Support external audits, tax engagements, and system implementations as needed.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and accounting policies.
- Partner with Finance Business Partners to analyze budget and forecast variances.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience (public accounting or private industry)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and staff development
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel occasionally (less than 10%)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting
- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience with construction accounting, including job costing and WIP reporting
- Familiarity with accounting automation tools and process optimization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus
