About this role
At Coram AI, we’re reimagining video security for the modern world. Our cloud-native platform uses computer vision and AI to help businesses stay safe, make smarter decisions, and move faster; from real-time alerts to seamless clip sharing and multi-site visibility.
You’ll be joining an ambitious, fast-moving team that values clarity, craftsmanship, and impact. Every person here has a voice, ships meaningful work, and helps shape how AI can make the world safer and more connected.
The role:
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical direction, architecture ownership, hiring, and people management. The right candidate will be deeply current with modern deep learning and GenAI, while also having real experience building and leading high-performance teams. Our team is small, highly capable, and operates at the intersection of real-time systems, computer vision, and generative AI.
Responsibilities:
- Define the roadmap and technical direction for the AI team in partnership with leadership and product
- Architect and review systems that deploy VLMs, VLAs, and CNNs across tens of thousands of cameras
- De-risk complex technical initiatives through design reviews, experimentation, and structured evaluation
- Lead 4 to 5 parallel projects with strong execution discipline while balancing incoming customer issues and shifting priorities
- Collaborate closely with the product to make principled tradeoffs between speed, accuracy, and scalability
- Contribute directly to implementation when needed and lead by example
- Hire, mentor, and grow a high-performance AI engineering team
- Establish strong engineering standards around reliability, observability, and model evaluation
Skills and qualifications:
- 3-5+ years of experience managing engineers and building a highly execution-driven culture
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MS or Ph.D. is a plus
- Strong technical depth in deep learning, computer vision, or multimodal systems
- Track record of shipping production-grade ML systems at scale
- Ability to balance technical debt, product velocity, and long-term architectural quality
- Hands-on experience building systems at the intersection of ML, real-time systems, and robotics
- Strong architectural judgment and ability to review complex system designs
- Prior experience as a senior technical lead in robotics, AI, or large-scale ML systems
- Resilient in challenging and fast-paced environments
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Ability to work in an onsite environment
What we offer:
- 100% Employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and base life insurance
- Flexible paid time off and 10 paid holidays
- 401(k) with both Traditional and Roth options
- Early-stage equity in a rapidly growing company
- Referral bonuses
- Daily team breakfast and dinner, and regular team off-sites
- The latest Apple products and unlimited tech stack (Claude Cowork, Perplexity Computer, Nooks, Clay, Instantly, etc.)
We're on a mission to transform a $50B+ legacy industry by bringing the power of cutting-edge multimodal LLMs and computer vision to real-world security and operations. From firearm detection to intelligent access control, our AI-native platform turns every camera and sensor into a smart system that enhances safety, efficiency, and awareness.
Founded by Ashesh Jain (ex-Lyft Level 5, PhD Cornell) and Peter Ondruska (ex-Lyft, PhD Oxford), Coram AI is backed by Battery Ventures, Mosaic, and 8VC, have raised over $30M, and were named to the CB Insights AI 100 as one of the most promising AI companies in the world. If you're excited to work on mission-critical AI that makes an impact in the real world, we’d love to meet you.
