We are looking for a collaborative and strategic Director, State Election Protection Program to lead our election protection programs in Georgia and Wisconsin, and support programs in other states as needed. This role will collaborate with teams across the organization as well as with many of our state-based coalition partners.
This is a full-time, temporary role starting August 1, 2026 and ending February 5, 2027. This role will report to the Senior Vice President, States, and is remote anywhere within the lower 48 United States (with a preference for someone who can work in both Central and Eastern time zones), and an expectation to travel 4-5 days per month.

Lead our 2026 election protection field programs in Georgia and Wisconsin
Lead the development and execution of election protection plans in alignment with our strategy for the November election for our teams in Georgia and Wisconsin

Experience leading successful local- or state-level public advocacy campaigns and organizing related to democracy, elections, voting rights and civil rights
•
Have managed and developed a team; set strategic direction for a team, and built a unified approach to achieve goals
•
A track record of leading organization-wide change initiatives
•
Ideally you have experience with a state legislative process (policy research and analysis, legislative drafting, legislative advocacy)
•
Ability to travel 4-5 times per month to Georgia, Wisconsin, Washington DC, as well as potentially other locations
•
Willing to have a social media presence on behalf of Common Cause, including being tagged on posts and creating content on behalf of the organization (as needed, Common Cause will provide accounts for staff members to use)
•
Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party
•
This position is classified as supervisory and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit
•
Common Cause is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time; please note that if hired, you will be asked to produce documentation for authorization to work in the US
Compensation: $116,699- $137,917
