About this role
ABOUT CRAYDEL
At Craydel, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and create opportunities. Our mission is to democratize access to quality higher education for students and working professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa.
We exist because we know that education should not be a privilege reserved for the few, but a right available to everyone, regardless of their background or location. We have helped over 100, 000 students find the right university and currently provide access to 500+ universities in 40+ study destinations around the globe.
Our commitment is to ensure that every student/working professional has the chance to achieve their educational and professional goals.
MISSION STATEMENT
To build strategic university relationships that drive enrollments (Craydel's North Star Metric) and deliver value to Craydel’s learners
ABOUT THE ROLE
Craydel is 100 people across 7 countries (8th launching this month), doubling yearly, and the single biggest thing slowing us down is execution: follow-through, accountability, and the gap between “we decided this in a meeting” and “this is done.”
We have never had an operations person inside the company. This is that role.
We need someone who makes sure things actually get done — across our markets, every day, working through our teams — and who finds deep satisfaction in closing loops, not just opening them.
This is the role that turns the founders’ decisions into executed reality and uses data to help every team make sharper ones.
You will be the execution partner to our co-founder. You sit in his meetings, capture every action item, and then make sure they happen — chasing, unblocking, persuading, and when a team lacks the know-how, working alongside them to get it done.
You’ll work daily with team leads across all our markets that don’t report to you, which means you get things done through influence and relationships, not authority.
Over time, as you prove you can run the execution engine, this role grows into broader operational ownership — the path to a future operations leadership / COO-track position. But the first 12–18 months are about earning that through relentless, often invisible, follow-through.
Much of this job is behind the scenes and repetitive by nature. Nobody outside the company sees your wins. Success looks like other people’s teams executing better. Some days are ten action items from one meeting and ten from the next, every day, across markets, with people who’d rather not be chased.
If that sounds draining, this isn’t your role. If the idea of an open loop sitting unclosed for a week genuinely bothers you — if you’d lose sleep over it — keep reading.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Sit in leadership and team meetings, capture action items, and own follow-through to completion across teams and markets.
- When a team doesn’t have the know-how to execute something — say, a go/no-go on rerunning a campaign — you work with them to get it done: helping pull the data, structure the analysis, write the brief, and align the vendor, so the decision gets made well and the team levels up in the process.
- Love working with data. You’re the person who pulls the numbers, spots what they’re really saying, and helps teams across the business make sharper decisions — defining what success looks like before making the call, not just reporting what happened.
- Get people who don’t report to you to deliver, by building real relationships and persuading them, escalating only as a genuine last resort.
- Build the systems that make the whole business run better — trackers, cadences, SOPs, dashboards, and AI-powered automations — across operations, not just for chasing follow-ups. You’re designing how Craydel executes as it scales.
- Spot recurring patterns across markets and fix the root cause, not just the symptom.
WHO YOU ARE
- 2–6 years in startup operations, chief-of-staff, project ops, or a similar execution-heavy role
- Consulting background is fine if you’ve since operated, not just advised.
- A natural finisher. You track everything, you close loops compulsively, and unfinished work nags at you.
- You scale through people, not heroics — your instinct is to get the team member to deliver, not to do everything yourself quietly.
- You can persuade and hold a line with people who outrank you in tenure and don’t report to you, without damaging the relationship.
- You genuinely enjoy data — segmenting it, finding the pattern others miss, and turning it into a recommendation a team can act on.
- Genuinely fluent with AI for analysis, reporting, and automation — you build with it, you don’t just talk about it.
- You read data to decide under time pressure rather than asking for another study.
- High energy, low ego, mission-aligned, and you thrive in a mess rather than needing structure handed to you.
- You want to be here for years and grow with us — not a one- to two-year stepping stone.
WHY THIS ROLE?
You’ll learn how a fast-scaling company actually works from the inside, work directly with the founders, see every part of the business, and — if you’re the person we’re describing — build the foundation for an operations leadership career here. We promote from within, fast, when people earn it.
CRAYDEL’S VALUES
1. We are learner-obsessed
- We put learners first in everything we do.
2. We do more with less
- We stretch ourselves and our budgets to accomplish more with less.
3. We think in solutions
- We know there are many obstacles in building a world-class start-up. That’s why we commit to identifying potential solutions every time we face a challenge.
4. We are performance-driven
- We hold ourselves accountable to achieve our KPIs.
5. We are stronger together
- We know that while each activity has an owner, we all depend on each other to achieve our key results.
CRAYDEL’S ANTI-VALUES (WHO WE ARE NOT)
1. We are not a 9-to-5 organisation. We have to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Putting learners first often means meeting them on evenings and weekends.
2. We are not a remote culture. All departments must work closely together to achieve our goals, so we value in-person collaboration.
3. We do not make excuses. If something isn’t getting done, we do it ourselves.
