THE OPPORTUNITY 📈
Honeydew is moving into its next phase of maturity, and we are bringing our accounting function in-house. We need a founding accounting leader—a "player-coach" who is ready to build a world-class organization from the ground up. You aren't just managing a ledger; you are architecting the systems, automation, and AI-native workflows that will allow us to scale 10x without 10x-ing the headcount.
WHAT YOU’LL BUILD (YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS) 🛠️
At Honeydew, we focus on outcomes over activities. In your first 180 days, you will be the driving force behind these three key milestones:
1. Modernize the Stack: Run the RFP and implementation for a new, AI-native ERP, integrating it with our entire modern finance stack (Brex, Stripe, Bill.com http://Bill.com, etc.).
2. Bring Accounting In-House: Successfully transition our full accounting function from our outsourced firm to your internal ownership utilizing our new finance stack.
3. The 10-Day Close: Re-engineer our processes and data integrations to reduce the monthly close to Business Day 10 and then build a path to Business Day 5 or better.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT
- System & Process Architecture: Build and execute accounting processes through heavy automation, moving us away from manual entries and toward real-time financial visibility.
- Technical Ownership: Own the results of the people, processes, and systems, ensuring revenue recognition and GAAP policies are impeccable.
- AI Integration: Treat AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) as part of your daily operating environment, finding new ways to automate reconciliations, flux analysis, and all accounting workflows.
- Strategic Partnership: Act as a true business partner to the CEO, CFO, and the full leadership team using financial insights to help Honeydew make better and faster decisions.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The Non-Negotiables:
- Venture-Backed Experience: 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 4 years owning the close at a high-growth, venture-backed startup.
- Modern Stack Mastery: You have personally implemented or operated an AI-native ERP and are comfortable navigating Brex, Bill.com http://Bill.com, Stripe, Justworks, and QBO.
- The "Builder" DNA: You have a genuine appetite for hands-on work. This is not a role for someone who wants to delegate the close; it’s for someone who wants to do it, automate it, and then teach the next person how to run it.
- Inquisitive Ownership: You keep digging until the numbers make sense. You dot every "i" and cross every "t," but never lose sight of the "so what" behind the data.
The Nice-to-Haves:
- CPA & Big 4: A CPA is strongly preferred, and a Big 4 background is a major plus.
- Industry Context: Experience in healthcare (telehealth), DTC subscriptions, or operating across multiple legal entities (including PC structures).
- Audit Prep: You’ve successfully prepared a startup for its first institutional audit.
